Peace in the Waiting Room

Landry & Sons Acoustics sought a way to absorb annoying sound reverberation in the waiting room of the new Western Maine Health office. The problem was due to a large skylight and surrounding enclosure: these hard surfaces created an echo chamber in the new space. Standard “stick-on” acoustic tiles were judged inappropriate for this situation. The solution: crossing under the vaulted space with wavy acoustic Transformit structures equipped with PolySoft liners. Sound waves bouncing in and out of the skylight area are diffused and absorbed. Subtle blue fabric color variations were chosen for the outer skins to match the chairs and carpet. The wave shaped ribbons emulate the motion of the sea and sky to relax the visitor visually as well viscerally. The improved acoustics in the space create a peaceful environment for the patients and visitors.
