Custom Design and Fabrication

Our site-specific shade structures are both sculptural and functional, adding distinctive architectural appeal to their setting while providing all the benefits of shade — protection from harmful UV rays, cooler air, and reduced glare. 

We can create pieces that are fixed in place or pieces that move, with the ability to retract or change over the course of the day. At night, lighting integrated with and within the structures can create a false sky or ceiling with changing color.

About Transformit

We are a design/build studio near Portland, Maine and tensile textiles are our medium.

We bring an artistic sensibility and technical expertise to concept development, design, fabrication, and installation. Working for and with architects, interior designers, exhibit designers, and event producers, we create artful installations that walk lightly on the earth for interior, outdoor, and experiential environments. Our work has been installed internationally in commercial, cultural, hospitality, retail, residential, wellness, and civic buildings and landscapes.

In addition to custom work,  we offer an extensive catalog of creative tension-fabric elements designed and ready-made for purchase or rent.

About Duvall Design

Charles Duvall started working with fabric structures as a designer and developer of camping tents. Inspired by flowers, leaves, branches, and other lightweight yet resilient natural structures, many of Duvall's original tent designs became popular in the U.S., Europe, and especially Japan, where they were recognized for their simple beauty, elegant structure, and sturdy performance.  Duvall Design has evolved into a highly focused artistic shop, working in fabric and frame as the primary medium but looking at the finished result as something more than that – as a truly dynamic space.
