Transformit Sponsors Fabric Walls of TECHSTYLE HAUS

Transformit is assisting Rhode Island School of Design's entry to the European Solar Decathlon, an annual design competition and celebration of energy-efficient housing by 20 colleges and universities. RISD, in collaboration with Brown University and the University of Applied Sciences, Erfurt, Germany, is designing and producing TECHSTYLE HAUS, a fully functional residence powered by solar electricity and built to the worldwide passivhaus* standard.

Our part is to pattern and construct the interior walls of the house, entirely of fabric.

We're excited to help because we thrive on challenges that extend our capabilities, and because we believe the goal of energy self-sufficiency is actually possible.

Stay tuned for updates as the project "unfolds"! Installation is set for June in the Parc of the Palace of Versailles, outside of Paris. The event is open to the public from June 28 to July 14, 2014.

* “A Passivhaus is a building, for which thermal comfort can be achieved solely by post-heating or post-cooling of the fresh air mass, which is required to achieve sufficient indoor air quality conditions – without the need for additional recirculation of air.”
