Watoto Children's Choir
Watoto Children’s Choir launched their 2015 world tour “O What Love” using custom tension fabric backdrops from Transformit. These custom pieces are shaped similarly to Transformit’s stock piece, the Wave Drop. Rather than having depth for internal lighting, the group needed a single panel with a single layer of fabric in order to back light the pieces. They also required that the pieces were free-standing. In order to accommodate these requirements, a curved frame structure was designed to support the structures, while minimizing any shadowing from the spreaders when backlit.
The Watoto Children’s Choir began in 1994, founded by the Watoto Child Care Ministry, a holistic care program that was initiated as a response to the overwhelming number of orphaned and vulnerable children and women in Uganda. The model involves physical care, medical care including HIV/AIDS treatment, education and moral and spiritual discipleship. The Watoto Children’s Choir has traveled all over the world, as advocates for the 18 million African children currently orphaned by AIDS. ‘Concerts of Hope’ are held in churches, community halls, schools and other venues globally. The choirs have performed before presidents and royalty in the White House, Buckingham Palace and many other national parliaments. Each child in the choir has suffered the loss of one or both of their parents, and are now part of the Watoto village family. Audiences are inspired as the children sing, dance and celebrate their story of hope.
