Hilary Howes, Creative Director
At age seven, Hilary Howes used her aunt’s gift certificate to buy an Erector Set instead of a doll, and her life as a builder was foretold. By high school she was leading an all-girl stage crew building with canvas and wood. She studied art, design, theater, and psychology at San Francisco State University and soon used all those skills designing sets and lights for theaters in Northern California. In a few years she saved enough for a two-month vacation, traveling Europe with her mate and a Eurailpass.
Designing for theater and teaching design at Dominican College continued until the birth of her daughter, when the entrepreneurial Hilary ‘settled down’ to owning retail stores. After selling her last Portrait Studio and Lab, she returned to her environmental design roots with a position in exhibit design and sales in Berkeley, California.
